(Probably) the Best Breakfast in Whitby

This morning we had an invitation from Megan's parents for breakfast. It's always good to share a meal with family - but in this instance they had a secondary motive: photos for their new website.

In the autumn, Doug and Hilary setup a new business, a bed and breakfast running from their home on Whitby's West Cliff.

Having taken some initial shots shortly after opening, they were keen to revamp their breakfast gallery and get some more images for use on their social networks and elsewhere on their website.

Of course, it would've been rude to turn down such an invitation - so we gladly accepted and were delighted to find ourselves being served breakfast after breakfast, enjoying everything from the Full English to the pancakes with crispy bacon and Maple Syrup (not my cup of tea - but I'm told it's very popular in America!).

First up...

Warm Berry Compote with Yoghurt and Blueberries

Looks great in the glass, and not everyone's up for a massive meal, especially if they've just woken up.  In our case, this acted as a fantastic 'starter', leading on to...

The Full English Breakfast

What is there to say? Great sausages and bacon from a local butcher, beans, a fried egg, tomatoes and mushrooms - and I'm told fried bread is also available if requested! Went down really well with some proper orange juice (with juicy bits) and a cafetiere of coffee (black in my case).

The Fish Courses... Smoked Salmon and Scrambled Eggs

Not a favourite of mine (I don't really like eggs in any form), but looks great and tastes fantastic, if that's your thing!

Smoked Haddock with a Poached Egg and Home-Baked Bread

I like smoked haddock - but not really for breakfast, and not with an egg on top. But I'm told this is a popular choice, and everyone knows protein at breakfast is good for you - bon apetit!

Pancakes with Crispy Bacon and Maple Syrup

I've never been to America, but apparently this is all the range on the other side of the pond. I ate a fair amount, but have to say I wasn't convinced. Pancakes with Maple Syrup - that's a definite yes. But adding salty, streaky bacon to the mix just didn't seem right - I'm a bacon sandwich kind of guy. Megan liked it.

Eggy Bread with Warm Berry Compote

By this point I was too full to consume anything more - though, despite not liking eggs as they are, I'm sure this would have gone down very well under different circumstances!

'Enough!' I hear you cry, 'Where can I get a delicious breakfast like this?'...

They're open for business and looking forward to their first full year as bed and breakfast proprietors in Whitby. You can visit their website and book online at www.thebirdhousewhitby.co.uk.

You can also find them on Facebook and Twitter.

Perk of the Job

Being a website designer in Whitby does bring occasional perks - breakfast being one of them! This isn't the first time I've been rewarded with a tasty meal, while providing a valuable service to one of my clients.

If you're looking for some no nonsense promotional shots of your business, product or service then feel free to get in touch. Photography is something which is part of the job for someone like me - especially as I continue to work with Whitby's wonderful small businesses.

Getting the right shots for your website or social media can make all the difference to how your customers (or potential customers) view your business - it can make all the difference.
